Sita Sings the Blues

Nina Paley mixes three threads: the tale of Sita, the devoted wife of Prince Rama who is cast aside despite her loyalty; her own breakup after her husband moved to India; and three shadow puppets who argue about the epic's details. Sita's numbers are set to recordings by jazz singer Annette Hanshaw. Paley animated almost all of it herself and later dedicated the film to the public domain.
